Holy Week: A Walk to the Cross预览

Protecting What’s Sacred
Imagine showing up to church, ready to worship, but before you can even enter, people are blocking the doors, charging ridiculous prices just to let you in. That’s exactly what was happening in the Temple during Jesus’ time.
The Temple was supposed to be a sacred place—where people met with God, worshiped, and offered sacrifices. But instead of being a place of prayer, it had turned into a marketplace. Merchants were overcharging for sacrificial animals, taking advantage of those who had come to honor God. Instead of making it easier for people to worship, they were making it harder.
When Jesus walked in and saw this, He didn’t stay silent. He flipped tables, drove out the merchants, and called them out. He wasn’t just defending a building—He was defending His people. Worship was never meant to be a business transaction. It was meant to be a heartfelt sacrifice to God.
There’s a difference between worship costing us and worship becoming an inconvenience. Worship should cost us something—whether it’s our time, comfort, or even our pride—but it should never be a barrier for others. Jesus showed that anything standing in the way of people genuinely encountering God has to go.
What Does This Mean for Us?
Our lives are like the Temple. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Just like Jesus cleared out the Temple, we have to clear out anything that distracts us from truly worshiping God. Are there things in your life—sin, distractions, unhealthy habits—that are getting in the way of your relationship with Him? Jesus wants to flip those tables in our hearts, not to punish us, but to set us free.
Reflection Question:
What tables need to be flipped in your life? Are there distractions, habits, or sins that are keeping you from fully worshiping God?
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for defending what’s sacred. Help me remove anything that distracts me from truly worshiping You. Show me what needs to change so that my life can be a place where You dwell. In Your name, Amen.
