God and His Word预览

The Bible is a book that tells us about itself. What does it say? To help us understand the importance and power of God’s word, the Bible describes itself as a few different objects.

A sword: God’s Word is alive for us today, and it has the power to cut through to our inner thoughts and feelings and speak right into our lives.

A mirror: When we listen to the Word of God and then walk away and forget what we’ve heard, we are like someone who looks in a mirror and can’t even remember what they look like. Instead, we can learn from God’s Word and put it into practice, like looking into a mirror. We see God’s standard set out in His Word. It shows us a reflection of ourselves.

Bread: We read that just after Jesus was baptised, He was tempted in the wilderness by the devil. For 40 days and 40 nights, Jesus fasted and was very hungry. Then the devil said, “If you are really the Son of God, tell the stones to turn into loaves of bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone.’

Jesus read the scriptures, and He was quoting from scripture that He had read and knew very well. He was quoting from the words Moses wrote! There is food that is more important than bread. We cannot live on just physical food; we need spiritual food too! The Word of God is food for our spirit and sustenance for our soul. The Word of God sustains us and gives us what we need to grow. I believe God’s Word is true.
