AUTHOR:
The second letter of Peter was also written by the apostle Peter.
DATE:
Peter knew that his death was right around the corner because of how bad things had gotten in Rome. He penned this last letter around AD 66.
AUDIENCE:
Peter is writing this letter to the same group of people that he did the first time around, the churches in Asia Minor.
REASON:
Peter wrote this second letter because false teaching was at an all-time high, and their doctrine was becoming blurred. He didn't want that to happen so he is encouraging them to stick to the truth.
THEME:
Watch out for false teachers.

"Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen." (3:17-18 NIV)
