The Incomprehensibility of God's InfinityНамуна

What theologians, pastors, and scholars said
Augustine of Hippo (354-430) said, “He said God is neither finite nor infinite in the ordinary sense, but infinitely greater than any infinity that humans can conceive. He saw God's infiniteness as the infinity of infinities.
A.W. Tozer (1897-1963) said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” When one reads his book, Knowledge of the Holy, it is as if he cannot write about God without constantly being drawn back to God's infinity. Tozer wrote that contemplating God’s infinitude brings the heart into “a perpetual astonishment.”
John Owen (1616–1683) said: “Bring your thoughts to the ocean of God’s infiniteness, and you will find no shore.” He concludes that when we see the infinity of God, all that we are and can accomplish suddenly appears as vapour.
Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274): He concluded that divine infinity doesn’t limit understanding—it expands it. The soul that studies the infinite learns to think beyond itself and begins to reflect God’s image in intellect and wonder.
Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758): For him, understanding God’s infinity transforms joy itself. If God is infinite, then joy in Him can never be exhausted—heaven is an eternal discovery of new beauty in God.
Timothy Keller (1950–2023): “The God of the Bible is infinite, yet He made Himself finite so that you could know Him. You can’t exhaust Him, but you can trust Him completely.”
C.S. Lewis (1898–1963): “If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” Lewis saw God’s infinity not as endless quantity but as inexhaustible quality—an infinite beauty, goodness, and joy that draws the heart homeward. For him, we must realise that every earthly longing is an echo of the infinite. He claims that God’s infinity is about infinite joy and not infinite size.
Augustine, Aquinas, and Calvin warned: “If you can comprehend it, it is not God.”
