Why Students Matter to God?

DAY 6 OF 7

Empowering Youth to Lead

Notice what Paul didn’t say. He didn’t tell Timothy, “Wait until you’re older before you lead.” He didn’t say, “Stay in the background until the mature ones take over.” Instead, Paul pushed Timothy forward—right into leadership, right into influence, right into responsibility.

Too often, we hold young people back. We tell them to “wait their turn” or “gain more experience” before they can serve. But in doing so, we risk silencing the very voices God is raising up. Students and young believers may lack years of experience, but they can lead with authenticity, boldness, and faith that often puts older believers to shame.

Empowering youth doesn’t mean throwing them into the deep end without help. It means giving them opportunities, walking alongside them, and trusting that the same Spirit who empowers us empowers them. When young people see that the church believes in them, they rise to the call.

Think about it—what if every church intentionally gave space for youth to preach, lead worship, serve in missions, or lead small groups? What would happen to the vibrancy and future of the church?

The truth is, students don’t just need to be discipled. They need to be released. If we don’t give them responsibility and opportunities to express themselves, the world will happily give them those things elsewhere.

Reflection: Am I creating space for young people to lead, or am I holding them back?

Action Step: Encourage a young believer today by affirming their gifts. Invite them into a leadership opportunity—big or small—and let them know you trust God to use them.
