A Voice in the Night from 1 Samuel 1; 2:11; 3

Note to the parents:

Based on the previous stories, your child may think that God only speaks to grown-ups. But Samuel was just a young boy!

Encourage your child to talk to God. They can ask Him to help them see who He made them to be. And it’s okay if you are also learning how to listen to God right along with them.

Help your child recall the story by asking simple questions about what happened.

Examples:

• Who did Samuel think was calling out to him?
• Whose voice did Samuel actually hear?
• What did Samuel say when God called him the last time?

Together, think about what you have learned. Invite your child to ask you the question.
Encourage them to add their thoughts or fill in a blank when prompted.

What did we learn about GOD?

• God wants to speak to us.
• He spoke to Samuel in a special way, and He speaks to all of us through the Bible and His Holy Spirit.

What did we learn about PEOPLE?

• People must choose to listen to God’s voice, like Samuel did.
• Just like you have to practice listening to Mom’s and Dad’s voice when we call you, you can practice listening to God as you pray and read His Word.
