40 Days to Awaken Your Sober Mind

DAY 4 OF 40

Alcohol makes a lot of promises...fun, relaxation, connection. But over time, it takes more than it gives. It robs us of energy, clarity, time, and health. It becomes a leaky bucket, and no matter how much we pour, we’re still empty the next day.

Isaiah reminds us that chasing what doesn’t satisfy is a waste of time and heart. The abundance that comes through Christ is contrary to what the world offers us, which is based on scarcity. And in Jeremiah, God says we’ve traded His living water for broken wells that can’t even hold water. The Apostle Paul, in Ephesians, reminds Christ followers that we are children of the Light and called to learn what is pleasing to Him so our lives will be in stark contrast to the world. He’s inviting us to be so filled up with the Holy Spirit that we are able to be singing and walking in gratitude. People should wonder what’s different about us.

Even in the midst of suffering and difficult circumstances, God delivers what we will never find in the bottom of a glass (or bottle). We were not created to blend in but rather have our identity rooted in the sufficiency of Christ alone. This produces a spiritual JOY that overflows from within.

Sis, you were made for more than a numbed-out life. You were made to drink deeply from the Spirit of God who restores, refreshes, and reconnects you to your true self. God says He is the living water and will quench our souls’ deep thirst. Alcohol just creates a thirst for itself.

Prayer:
Father, I confess that I’ve looked to alcohol to meet needs only You can fill. Redirect my heart and satisfy me with Your presence.

Journal Prompt:
Make a two-column list: What alcohol promises vs. what it actually delivers. Then reflect on what God promises in contrast.

About this Plan

40 Days to Awaken Your Sober Mind

Have you found yourself at the end of a long day, wondering, “Is this glass of wine really helping? You’re not alone. Let's awaken your sober mind through presence, grace, and truth. We’ll explore what it means to pause, connect, and live in alignment. We’re going to look at what God’s Word says about freedom, peace, and wholeness. Each day, I encourage you to slow down and really reflect. Let this be more than just a reading. Let it be a rewiring. You are not broken. You’re being rebuilt. One day at a time, one choice at a time.
