40 Days to Awaken Your Sober Mind

DAY 3 OF 40

We often measure our drinking by looking around the room. At least I don’t drink as much as her. But comparison, whether it's about parenting, body image, or our relationship with alcohol, is a trap that keeps us stuck, and the enemy wants that for us.

Galatians 6 reminds us to test our own actions, not judge that of others. God knows our struggles, hears our cries, and sees our hearts. The world looks at the outside, but God cares about the inside. We tend to compare our worst to someone else's best. This sober-minded journey is about waking up to your own life and not having the distraction of looking around.

2 Corinthians 10:12 clearly calls comparison unwise. Freedom begins when we shift our focus from everyone else’s choices to the inner work God is doing in us.

Sis, your story is valid whether or not someone else has it “worse.” God isn’t grading you on a curve. He’s calling you into clarity and honesty, no matter where others are on the journey. We are all unique, and so are our stories. While community and connection are vital for this road, so is staying in your own lane and not looking to the left or right. Making it your goal to move forward following the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:
Lord, help me stop comparing. Teach me to focus on my own path, and give me strength to walk it with confidence.

Journal Prompt:
Have you ever used comparison to justify your drinking? What have you discovered about your own relationship with alcohol and the challenges of staying fully present?
