40 Days to Awaken Your Sober Mind

DAY 1 OF 40

Sis, I used to think my nightly wine routine was harmless. You know, just a glass while cooking, maybe another while watching a show. But it wasn’t about the wine. It was about the why. I had competing desires: I wanted to drink, but I also wanted clarity and peace. I wanted connection, but I also wanted to numb out a bit. I wanted lasting rest, but I settled for temporary relief.

The truth is, we’re not broken or weak; we’re wired by habits. But habits can change. Desires can shift. God gives us the power to renew our minds, and that renewal changes our desires, our routines, and our relationships.

Romans 12:2 is a call to wake up from the ways of this world, especially the ones that seem "normal" or socially acceptable but are quietly pulling us away from peace. It invites us to allow God’s deeper work inside of us by changing how we think, how we cope, and what we believe is possible. It’s about surrendering not just behaviors, but mindsets. When we’ve got “one foot in and one foot out” of the world, we experience a divided mind. By transforming our thoughts to God’s truth and His pattern, we renew our minds and literally change how we can show up in our own lives!

Psalm 37:4 shows us that when we seek God first, our desires realign to His and reshape what we long for. The more you delight in Him, the more your desires begin to mirror His best for you.

Today, don’t try to force change. Just get honest. Ask yourself, What do I really want? Not just tonight, but what do I really want in my life, my health, my joy, my future?

Prayer:
Jesus, renew my mind. Help me recognize my true desires. Lord, I pray for Your Spirit to transform me from the inside out. Amen.

Journal Prompt:
What are the top 3 things you truly want in this season of your life? How do those align (or conflict) with your current habits around drinking? Write them out from a place of curiosity rather than judgment.
