Lord's Prayer: Hallowed Be Thy Name

DAG 5 AV 5

Praying that God would make his name holy has vast implications for what we want God to do in us. We’re telling God to make his name holy in us. In other words, we’re asking God to make us holy. This impacts both what we say and how we live. First, what we say. How do you talk about God? What do you tell people about God? Is it true? Do you glorify God out loud? Does it reflect his holiness? Does it overflow with the joy of how special he is? Now, how we live. Does your life reflect God’s holiness? Would it lead people towards him or away from him? Is it gravitational – not towards yourself, but towards God? Do you want your life to be this way? When Jesus tells us to pray, “Hallowed be thy name,” he’s telling us to tell God to conform us to his holiness. It’s a plea. Father, change me! Let my life be first and foremost directed to your holiness and your glory. Through this prayer Jesus is looking to change our perspective. Jesus wants us to assume the greatest thing is the glory of God against an inclination to think it’s basically all about me. Consider this today… How do the things you say and do reflect God’s holiness? How do they profane him? Pray the Lord’s Prayer, and as you do, pray that God would increase his holiness in your life today. If this plan helped you orient towards Jesus’s perspective on life and the future, we encourage you to subscribe to the other “Lord’s Prayer” plans.
