Anchorage: The Storm of Sickness | Part 6 of 8

DAG 5 AV 7

God Is Good, All the Time! There is great peace in understanding sickness and suffering from a Godly perspective, because from the human perspective it would not always make sense. But when we find Godly justification even in our suffering, it somehow initiates a process of healing from within. When Job lost all that he had, including his children, he uttered those famous words that we so often hear as words of comfort when we undergo loss: “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” But even up 'til this point, his suffering had not reached his person. His health was still not affected. And then Satan went on to ask for God's permission to take away even his health. But the response that Job had, even to his own health being affected, after all that he had already lost, was simply beautiful. Seeing him suffer, his wife asked him to simply curse God and die. But Job replies beautifully in chapter 2 when he says, “Shall we indeed accept good from the Lord and shall we not accept adversity?” We bless and praise God when He does good things for us, when He blesses us with health and prosperity, but the moment things don’t go our way, we tend to blame Him and walk away. Job’s perspective is beautiful, in that he acknowledges that God knows best. Even if his situation right now does not make sense to him, he believes that the same God who bestows good upon him is still in control even in the bad times. The God of the mountains is still God in the valleys. He will not fail us. And just like Job was restored, he will restore us. Reflect Ask God to help you remember His goodness when you find yourself in a difficult situation. He is still faithful; He will see you through!
