Josh Wilson - That Was Then, This Is Now

DAG 4 AV 7

Blown Away If you’ve ever met my wife, you know she’s the life of the party. The moment she walks into a room, it lights up and everyone is immediately having more fun. She always says, “Life is too short to be too cool.” I love that. In fact, I wrote a song based on that statement called “Blown Away." It’s so easy to care too much about what people think of us. We want our houses, cars, and clothes to be up to date with whatever everyone else has, so we spend all our time and energy on obtaining those things. We curate our social media posts to make sure it looks like we have the best friends, food, experiences, and lives. We become so hurried that we forget why we’re really here. We’re here to glorify God, not ourselves. 1 Peter 4:11 says that we should live “in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.” Sometimes we need to slow down long enough to “stop and consider the wondrous works of God” (Job 37:14). I wrote “Blown Away” because I’m guilty of hurrying about, trying to build my own kingdom instead of God’s. The song reminds me to be “blown away, by Your extraordinary grace every ordinary day,” and to “slow down, look around… to stop and be amazed,” not by what I’m doing, but by who God is and what He has done. My prayer for us today is to stop worrying so much about what others think, and to reflect on the infinite beauty of our Creator and Savior. In light of him, everything else pales in comparison.
