Could Your Workplace Culture Be a Stumbling Block?

DAY 3 OF 5

Is Your Workplace A Stumbling Block? – Part III In an article titled, “Why Ethical People Make Unethical Choices,” the Harvard Business Review highlighted five ways that organizations needlessly provoke good people to make unethical choices. The third way is that “Conflicting goals provoke a sense of unfairness.” Many organizations unwittingly establish conflicting goals that result in people feeling unfairly treated. A common example is when a successful sales person is growing a territory, only to have management cut their territory in half and cut the marketing budget, while expecting them to exceed previous sales goals. Leviticus 19:15 teaches, “Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.” When establishing goals, consider how it will impact each department and individual. Otherwise, your team may sabotage your plans.
