Could Your Workplace Culture Be a Stumbling Block?

DAY 1 OF 5

Is Your Workplace A Stumbling Block? – Part I The Harvard Business Review published an article titled, “Why Ethical People Make Unethical Choices.” This article highlighted five ways that organizations needlessly provoke so-called good people to make unethical choices. This week we’re going to discuss these five organizational stumbling blocks that could cause employees to make poor ethical decisions. The first one is, “It is psychologically unsafe to speak up.” If employees believe that no one wants to hear about unethical problems, or worse yet, that the organization in fact punishes whistle blowers, they have no motivation to share their experiences. This can create a self-perpetuating unethical culture. Proverbs 13:18 teaches, “Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.” Refusing to discipline the unethical in your midst can lead to pervasive corruption. Prompt action leads to a stronger and more ethical culture.
