## MADE FOR THIS MOMENT: CALEB ### Whole-hearted Devotion WARM-UP “But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.”-- Numbers 14:24 ON THE PITCH The Israelites had just been delivered from centuries of slavery through a miraculous display of God’s power in the parting of the Red Sea. No longer slaves in Egypt, they crossed the wilderness toward the land God had promised their ancestors. A land for which they had longed, dreamed, and waited. They were finally within reach. The land did not come without obstacles, however. Before they would take this promised land, God instructed Moses to send 12 spies to explore the land of Canaan. These men found a land flowing with milk and honey; they also discovered a land full of inhabitants who were not too keen to give it up so quickly. Ten of the twelve spies could not see past the obstacle directly in front of them to the greater promise behind. Overcome with fear and trepidation, they instructed the Israelites to forego this land and turn back. But Caleb, along with Joshua, had a different spirit. Rather than let the size and strength of the enemy deter him, Caleb (whose name means “wholehearted”) had full faith in the power of the Promise Maker. Even when the odds were stacked against him, he remembered the promises and the faithfulness of his God. If God had promised this land, then Caleb would march forth in confidence, knowing his God would deliver on His promise. His God. Your God. Our God. The Promise Maker. The Promise Keeper. What promises of God do you need to remember today? Are you accessing the power of the Promise Keeper in the moment He has given you? A life of faith and obedience does not provide immunity from the hardships of this world, but it does grant access to the power of the One who has overcome this world. Will you follow this One wholeheartedly and take hold of the abundant life He has promised? EXTRA TIME John 10:7-10; John 16:33; Ephesians 6: 10-17 PRAYER Father, help me to follow You with my whole heart. Help me cling to You and Your promises, even when obstacles are overwhelming. Help me to take hold of the fullness of life You have provided through the saving work of Jesus Christ. In Your name, I pray, amen.
