The Making of One Bride
Thoughts on the Passage
There are a few thoughts here.
First, we see John again carried away in the Spirit. This happens several times to John as God gives him this revelation. God opens up heaven in new ways and here we see it again. This time, it is to see what the new heaven and earth look like and the new home of His bride – the people of God. John is going to get a picture of our eternal home. It is a special picture.
Second, we see a connecting of the Bride with the home. They are so closely connected that the home is called the Bride. That may seem strange at first but it is not. People make a house into a home. The Bride makes this eternal city a home that is closely connected to her in every way. So much so that the people of God become the living stones of this new place. How can that happen? I do not really know – I look forward to seeing it though.
Third, we see the integration of the two streams of the people of God – the Jewish people of God and the Church. The twelve gates of the new city – they are the twelve tribes of Israel. The foundation of the new city – they are the twelve apostles. God weaves everyone together into His bride.
Prayer
Father, You are going to weave the Church and all of the Old Testament believers into one Bride. We have been so pulled apart by the problems we face that at times we forget that You will be making one Bride – not a bunch of separate ones. Oh that we Your people would get started today to pull together, work together, love one another and care for one another like You have designed us to be. Forgive me when I have focused on what separates us and not what makes us one Body. Father, keep building us together into a holy place for You to dwell. That takes much cleaning up, much patience and hard work. Above all, we want to be that pure, spotless, holy Bride that welcomes The King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In Jesus Name, Amen.
O tomto pláne
Many of us have thought about what our heavenly home will be like. In Plan 13 of Revelation, we read the description of heaven and start painting all these wonderful pictures in our minds. But we will never come close to picturing what God our Father has in store for us. So let us take heed of Jesus final message in Revelation and make sure we don’t miss out on what God is preparing for us.
