VICTORY OVER IDENTITY CRISIS & ADDICTIONSනියැදිය

Day 1: Who You Were Then & Who You Are Now
Scripture: “And you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.” — Ephesians 2:1 (KJV)
I remember vividly being about to graduate from secondary school. I was super excited as we finished our final WAEC paper—it was pure joy! A few months later, I was in the university.
Here’s the interesting part: just a short time before, I was living at home with my parents, going to school daily. Suddenly, I was living alone, far from my immediate family, learning to be responsible for myself. What happened? Change.
In the same way, when you become born again, you experience a complete transformation. You are not who you used to be. Your old life is gone, and your new life in Christ has begun.
The Bible says, “You were dead in trespasses and sins.” That was your old state. You had no spiritual life—you were lost in sin, and even your best attempts at righteousness were like filthy rags.
There was a time in my own life when I entertained lustful thoughts and desires. That was how I expressed myself. I allowed sin to reign in me. But when I discovered the truth of God’s Word, I realised I had a new identity: I was born again.
Now, who are you? You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. You are special and loved by God. This is not positive thinking—it is divine truth.
Imagine adopting a child who still goes around saying, “I’m just an orphan helped by a kind family.” It would break your heart. In the same way, it grieves God when you keep identifying as a “sinner saved by grace.” You are no longer that person.
Today, walk confidently—shoulders high and head lifted—knowing that you were once lost but now you are righteous, loved, and accepted in Christ.
Reflection:
Are you still identifying with who you were, or have you embraced who you are now in Christ?
Prayer & Confession
Father, thank You for making me new in Christ. Help me to see myself the way You see me. I let go of the old and fully embrace my new identity. From today, I will walk, speak, and think as Your child. I am victorious and triumphant in Christ Jesus. Amen.
