3 - LORD'S PRAYER - the Lord´s Requirements

DAY 17 OF 17

Summary of these Reflections

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.'" Matthew 6.9,10 (NIV)

  1. Sanctifying God’s Name
Prayer begins with acknowledging God’s holiness. By asking, “Hallowed be Your name” (Matthew 6:9, NIV), we invite God’s glory to be revealed in our hearts and lives. When God’s name is honored within us, it naturally extends to the world.
  2. God’s Kingdom
“Your kingdom come” (Matthew 6:10, NIV) is not about earthly power but about inviting God’s reign into our hearts. Jesus explained, “The kingdom of God is in your midst” (Luke 17:21, NIV). Praying for the Kingdom asks us to surrender, allowing Christ to reign fully in our lives.
  3. God’s Will
Millions pray “Your will be done” (Matthew 6:10, NIV) without understanding it. God’s will is revealed in creation, in Scripture, and supremely in the life of Jesus Christ. Knowing His will is not enough—it must be practiced, shaping our daily choices, relationships, and actions.
  4. God’s Kingdom Illustrated
Jesus used parables to teach about the Kingdom: a hidden treasure (Matthew 13:44, NIV), a pearl of great value (Matthew 13:45–46, NIV), a mustard seed growing into a tree (Matthew 13:31–32, NIV), leaven transforming dough (Matthew 13:33, NIV), and a feast welcoming all (Luke 14:16–17, NIV). The Kingdom is both present and future (Luke 17:20–21, NIV), calling us to trust God amid a world still under the influence of evil.
  5. Being Molded by God
For God’s will to be done on earth, it must first be done in us. Like clay in the potter’s hands, we are shaped and reshaped according to His purpose (Jeremiah 18:1–6, NIV). Resistance, imperfections, or cracks in our lives do not stop His work; He continues molding us, sometimes reshaping us entirely.
  6. Resistance and Submission
Our pride often resists God’s shaping. When the clay resists, the potter adjusts, just as God works patiently with us. Obedience is inseparable from love; when we trust God’s care, surrender becomes a privilege rather than a burden. Jeremiah reminds us: “The pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him” (Jeremiah 18:4, NIV).
  7. Choosing to Be a Precious Vessel
We can choose to be vessels of greater or lesser value in God’s hands. By praying, “Father, may Your will be done on earth, in this clay that is me, as it is in heaven,” we acknowledge His sovereignty and seek transformation from within (Isaiah 64:8, NIV).
  8. Faith and Transformation
Faith opens us to God’s shaping. Like the potter, God works through circumstances, trials, and guidance to form our character. Our hearts must be pliable, and our trust in His love makes obedience joyful rather than burdensome.

About this Plan

3 - LORD'S PRAYER - the Lord´s Requirements

The well-known Lord's Prayer, taught by Jesus to his disciples, can be divided, for study purposes, into two parts. The first addresses God's demands: his dwelling, his person, his kingdom, and his will. The second half addresses humanity's demands: their needs for bread, forgiveness, and deliverance. Let us, in this context, address the first part of the prayer.
