DAY 26 OF 28

Day 26—Learning to listen to God’s voice in worship

Devotional
“Teach me...Give me understanding…Direct me…Turn my heart…Turn my eyes…How I long for your precepts!” (Psalm 119 NIV) Do you notice the deep longing in this section of the Bible’s longest psalm? A longing for wholehearted devotion and to walk in His ways? There is an acknowledgement that it is easy to get sidetracked: “Turn my eyes away from worthless things” (Psalms 119:37 NIV). Do you long for God in the same way? Long to follow Him wholeheartedly? Is your heart turned towards every word He says to you? Your heart is compared in Luke 8 to the soil that God’s word falls on. When your heart is captivated by what God says to you, you will soak it in, remember it, and follow through so that it will produce fruit in your life.

Prayer
Lord, sometimes I get distracted by things that are not important or are even worthless. Turn my heart towards You, that I would long for You more than anything. May I be like that good soil so that when I hear Your voice, it produces lasting fruit and change in my life. Amen.

Application
Sing out a spontaneous worship song (a cappella or with an instrumental track in the background). If you have never done this before, give it a go! Pick simple words like “I worship You, Lord,” or “I love You with all my heart.” Then make up a melody to go with it. After a time of singing, take some time to listen to what He wants to say to you and write it down.

About this Plan

Deeper in Worship

"Deeper In Worship" is a 28-day plan designed to help you grow in your love for God through a fuller understanding of why and how we worship. Worship is for God alone; it is deeply spiritual, often physical, and a journey into encountering the presence of God. The plan includes a daily Psalm and a New Testament passage. It finishes with a short devotional, a prayer, and a suggested application.
