Soulful Summer Reset: A 7-Day Devotional to Renew Your Mind, Body, and Spirit

DAY 4 OF 7

Day 4: Let Go to Lift Off

One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t take everyone with you. No matter how deeply you love someone or how badly you want them to win, it will never work if you want their success more than they do. Pouring yourself into people who refuse to grow isn’t compassion, it’s self-sabotage.

When you continually enable those who take advantage of your kindness, you're not only harming yourself but also those who genuinely need help. You’re keeping those who need your help from experiencing the growth that comes from accountability. God never called you to sacrifice your peace or your purpose for people who have no intention of pursuing their own.

Life is but a vapor. Here one moment, gone the next. If we spend our days investing in the wrong people, places, or priorities, we risk missing the very assignment God created us to fulfill. Letting go of toxic people, draining environments, and destructive habits may feel painful, but it’s the only way to make room for God’s best.

I’ve worked in more toxic workplaces than I care to count. For years, I internalized false guilt. I bought into the lies that I was “too much” or “not enough.” I was too quiet in meetings. I was not social enough because I declined attending happy hour events. But the day I stopped bending to please people who held no authority over my destiny was the day I found peace. I finally realized that their approval doesn’t determine my worth.

God is calling you higher, but what are you clinging to that’s keeping you grounded? The release may hurt, but it’s holy. Let go so you can rise.

Reflection:

What burdens am I being asked to release right now?
