Are We Loving Well?ਨਮੂਨਾ

Devotional 10: Love Does Not Rejoice at Wrongdoing, But Rejoices with the Truth
“…it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth…” — 1 Corinthians 13:6 (ESV)
Reflection
Rejoicing in wrongdoing is a subtle temptation we often face—whether in gossip, pleasure at others' misfortunes, or even ignoring the wrongs around us. But love refuses to find joy in the failures or downfalls of others. Instead, it stands firm with truth, embracing what is right, pure, and just.
Love is anchored in truth. It celebrates righteousness, seeks justice, and desires restoration, not revenge. Where wrongdoing divides, truth unites. Love is committed to the truth even when it’s uncomfortable because the truth is what sets people free.
Scripture References
- Romans 12:9 (ESV) – “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.”
- Psalm 15:2 (ESV) – “He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart.”
- Philippians 4:8 (ESV) – “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just… think about these things.”
Practical Application
- When hearing gossip or slander, resist the urge to listen or contribute. Redirect the conversation toward positivity or truth.
- Celebrate truth-telling, honesty, and integrity when you encounter them in others, whether in your personal life or in society.
- Check your heart. Ask yourself: Am I tempted to feel glad when others fall short, or do I mourn with them and cheer them on toward restoration?
Prayer
Lord, You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Help me to hold fast to Your truth in all situations and to celebrate what is good, pure, and right. Forgive me when I’ve rejoiced in wrongdoing, whether in my own life or others. Teach me to love with the heart of truth, bringing light to darkness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Call to Action
This week, when faced with a situation where wrongdoing or gossip arises, choose to stand for truth. Encourage honesty, seek reconciliation, and refrain from taking pleasure in the misfortunes of others. Let your love reflect God’s commitment to truth and justice.
About this Plan

God is love, and we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). Still, life’s hardships and our human flaws often make it hard to love others as God loves us. The aim isn’t perfection but transformation—becoming more like Christ in how we love. As you reflect, ask yourself: Are we loving well? This isn’t about comparing ourselves to others, but about honestly assessing our hearts, identifying where growth is needed, and realigning our love with God’s, so that His love can flow through us more freely.
