Every Hour I Need You: 7 Meditations for Moms on the Character of God ਨਮੂਨਾ

God Is Purposeful
God is never wishy-washy but always purposeful, and his purposes are always accomplished. We see this truth in the Old Testament:
“But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth” (Exodus 9:16, ESV).
“I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me” (Psalm 57:2, ESV).
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand” (Proverbs 19:21, ESV).
“. . . declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose’” (Isaiah 46:10, ESV).
In the New Testament, we see God’s purpose at work in Jesus, who answered Pilate, “For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth” (John 18:37, ESV). Then Jesus submitted to his Father’s will, “becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:8, ESV).
Jesus died and was raised—to what end? That we might have “redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, . . . according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time” (Ephesians 1:7–10, ESV). God’s purpose means our rescue, redemption, forgiveness, and salvation—all for his glory and honor.
The same purposeful God of the Bible has purposes for our motherhood journeys too. Have you ever asked why God made you the mother of your children? It wasn’t an accident, and it wasn’t by chance. God determines when and where people live so “that they should seek [him]” (Acts 17:27, ESV), and he made you the mother of your children with that ultimate purpose in mind. It’s our sovereign God’s good intention that your children might seek and find him, and you’re part of that plan.
From Romans 8, we also know that “for those who love God all things”—including being a mom—“work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (v. 28). What is that good purpose? That we might be “conformed to the image of his Son” (v. 29). In other words, that we might become more like Jesus.
Motherhood is training ground where we learn to mortify our sin (put it to death) and are sanctified (made holy). Here our deepest griefs aren’t wasted; trusted to him, the Lord uses them to prepare “for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison” (2 Corinthians 4:17, ESV). Even today, God can use motherhood to make us into the women he designed us to be, whom Jesus died for us to be.
Reflection Questions:
1. What is God’s purpose for your children?
2. How is God using motherhood to accomplish his purpose in your life?
