GOD OWNS IT ALL
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” Psalm 24:1 (NIV)
When we think about our legacy, we often focus on what we leave behind—possessions, achievements, and memories. But the most important thing we can leave behind is a life that reflects the truth that God owns it all. Psalm 24:1 reminds us, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” This means everything we have—our time, talents, relationships, and resources—ultimately belong to God.
Randy Alcorn puts it this way: “God owns everything. We are simply managers of the resources He has entrusted to us.” This perspective shifts our understanding of what it means to live a legacy. Rather than focusing on accumulating things for ourselves, we are called to manage God’s resources wisely, with the understanding that we are caretakers, not owners.
Joshua’s life is a powerful example of this truth. As he led the Israelites, he never forgot that their victories and the Promised Land were God’s gifts, not their own possessions to keep. Throughout his life, Joshua made decisions that reflected his understanding that everything belonged to God. His leadership was rooted in this truth: that his role was to faithfully steward God’s purposes for Israel. His legacy wasn’t just about conquering the land—it was about following God’s will and leading others to do the same.
When we live with the awareness that God owns everything, our decisions take on greater significance. We are no longer living just for ourselves but for the glory of God and the good of others. Our legacy becomes one of faithfulness, generosity, and service—a legacy that points others toward God’s eternal purposes.
CHALLENGE:
When I think about continuing to build my house (life) on the rock that is unshakeable, what specifically might that look like in this next season of my life?
PRAYER THOUGHT:
Reflect on what it looks like to align your life with God’s will so you can leave a legacy that points others to Him. Humbly ask God to teach you to live faithfully and generously for His kingdom.
