KINGDOM MATH
“Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water’; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, ’Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.’ They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.” John 2:7-9 (NIV)
On social media, the phrase “the math ain’t math’n” is commonly used when something doesn’t quite add up or make sense.
In God’s Kingdom, the math doesn’t always add up. In John 2, Jesus told the servants at the wedding in Cana to fill jars with water, an action that seemed unrelated to the problem of running out of wine. Yet, their obedience led to a miracle—the water turned into the finest wine. Ordinary obedience that leads to extraordinary results is Kingdom math.
Similarly, in Joshua 10, Joshua prays for the sun to stand still so that Israel can finish their battle. From a human perspective, stopping the sun seems impossible, but Joshua’s faith in God’s power meant that he trusted God to do the impossible. And God responded, extending the day to ensure His people fulfilled their calling.
Both of these stories highlight the same principle: Kingdom math is about trusting God’s power over human logic. In the natural world, filling jars with water won’t create wine, and the sun standing still seems unimaginable, but in God’s Kingdom, obedience to His instructions, even when they don’t make sense, unlocks His supernatural power.
In Kingdom math, we don’t rely on what we see, but on God’s promises and His ability to do far more than we can imagine. Our obedience, even in small things, invites God’s power to move. The miracles in John 2 and Joshua 10 remind us that God’s math isn’t limited by our understanding—what seems impossible is simply an opportunity for God to display His power.
CHALLENGE:
Look for an opportunity to give, whether it’s time, money, or resources, where it doesn’t seem to make sense in the natural world. Trust that God’s Kingdom math operates on generosity and that your giving, even when it feels like a sacrifice, will multiply in ways you can’t foresee.
PRAYER THOUGHT:
Ask God to give you the courage to obey Him, even when His instructions seem illogical. Remember that your obedience, no matter how small, opens the door for God’s supernatural work.
