One of the biggest lies that most of us carry around in our hearts is that the focus of Christianity is to “be good.” To behave well. To be “good little boys and girls.”

Our culture works by the idea of earning, so it’s not a surprise that we think we need to earn God’s Favor and Love, too. Maybe earning good grades got burned into our psyche, too. Or the idea that our worth is based on a good review or likes, or what people say about us.

Whatever the reason, it’s just kind of ingrained in us. But Jesus debunked that lie. The heart of Christianity isn’t “be good.” It’s “Know Me.” Jesus told us that the way to have Eternal Life is to know Him. Not to behave well, but to know Him. That has been God’s goal all along—so much so that He came here Himself. When Jesus came to Earth, God was saying: “You want to know Me? Here I am.”

Christianity is really simple: it’s a long relationship. So make getting to know God the biggest pursuit of your life. Make it the biggest focus of your life. Read His Word and learn about God from other people who had friendships with Him. Read about how He lived when He was on Earth. Listen to His Voice in your heart. Get to know God, your Friend forever.
