Why Jesus? Because He Defeated Death

The Cross was not the end of the story. Jesus didn’t stay in the grave, He rose again! And because of that, everything has changed. Death is no longer the final word. Sin has lost its grip. Hope is alive.

Early on Sunday morning, after the darkest day in history, a small group of women made their way to Jesus’ tomb, hearts heavy with grief. But when they arrived, they were met with an astonishing sight. The stone had been rolled away, and the tomb was empty. Confused and afraid, they were greeted by an angel who declared the most powerful words ever spoken: “He has risen! He is not here.” (Mark 16:6-7).

The resurrection of Jesus is the greatest victory in history. Everything we believe as Christians hinges on this moment. Without the resurrection, Jesus would have been just another teacher, another prophet, another good man who died too soon. But He did not stay dead. He conquered sin, defeated death, and rose in power, proving once and for all that He truly is the Son of God, the risen King.

In 1 Corinthians 15:55, Paul declares, “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The resurrection means that death no longer has the final say. Jesus’ triumph guarantees that those who believe in Him will also rise to eternal life. John 3:16 reminds us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Because Jesus walked out of that tomb, we are no longer bound by fear, shame, or sin. The same power that raised Christ from the dead now lives in us.

The resurrection isn’t just a historical event, it’s a present reality. It means we can live with confidence, knowing that Jesus is alive, that He is with us, and that nothing—not even death—can separate us from His love. Whatever you are facing today, know this: Jesus has overcome. His victory is your victory.
