Why Jesus? Because He Became One of Us
Have you ever felt like no one truly understands what you’re going through? The amazing thing about Jesus is that He doesn’t just sympathize with us, He knows what it is to be human. He experienced joy, pain, hunger, betrayal, exhaustion, and even death. And yet, He was without sin.
Jesus is both fully God and fully man. Other religions speak of humans trying to become like God, but Christianity is the only faith where God came close and became like us.
Mark 2:1-10 tells the story of Jesus healing a paralyzed man. The religious leaders were shocked when Jesus said, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” They knew only God could forgive sins, yet here was Jesus, doing just that. Then, to prove His authority, He told the man, “Get up, take your mat and go home,” and he did!
Jesus refers to Himself as the Son of Man more than any other title. This phrase comes from Daniel 7:13-14, where a heavenly figure is given authority and dominion. By calling Himself the Son of Man, Jesus was declaring that He was both human and the promised Messiah.
Hebrews 4:14-16 describes Jesus as our Great High Priest, who understands our struggles because He has faced them Himself. He knows what it’s like to be tired, tempted, and rejected. And because of this, we can come to Him with confidence, knowing He truly understands.
The most powerful thing about Jesus being one of us is that He didn’t have to die but He chose to. Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death.” But Jesus had no sin, meaning He had no reason to die. And yet, He willingly laid down His perfect life for us.
Take time today to thank Jesus for becoming one of us. Bring your struggles to Him in prayer, knowing that He truly understands.
