Creating a Warrior Mindset

DAY 4 OF 5

Getting Through

Before I truly mastered my warrior mindset The enemy was having a field day in my thoughts which ultimately led to me trying to end my own life; but God used that as his opportunity to show me his grace and mercy and carried me away, renewed. God gave me a testimony and he can do the same for you if you invite him into your situations. I allowed God to take the wheel as I was going through, my ride was so much smoother and my eventually finally came. Merriam Webster.com defines going through as “to continue firmly or obstinately to the end” and getting through as “to become clear or understood” or “to reach a destination.” So ultimately, if you’re going through you’re persistent and determined to get where you’re meant to be. And when you get through, that means you’ve reached your destination, you have clarity and understanding about the previous situation you were going through. Personally, I find joy in “going through” because if you allow God to take control, your situation won’t get the better of you, and you’ll have a story to tell at the end. A story that will be about more than you, a story that’ll help somebody else get through something similar, or maybe something worse just by knowing that eventually it does get better.

So why does having a warrior mindset matter?

Well because after the mental breakdown and the time I spent in the psych facility, life actually got harder and the situations I found myself in got worse than they were before. The difference this time was how I thought about the situations, which changed was how I spoke and how I reacted to the things that were happening. Getting through a mental breakdown and picking up the pieces that followed wasn’t easy. Every day I had to make sure I was being intentional about my thoughts and the way I spoke over my life. I had to get up and tell myself I’m doing better than I was before and God is within me so I will never fail. In turn that’s when I got clarity and understanding. I saw yet again, the way I thought influenced the way that I spoke, and how I spoke shaped my life (Proverbs 4:23-24). Only this time, I had a different perspective on how to actually use my mind to fight and not my emotions.

It’s Already Done.

Sometimes when we go through spiritual warfare we forget “it’s already done,” so yes you’re going through these trials and tribulations. Yes, things are hard and you feel terrible, but the good news is God has already worked it out. He’s not allowing you to go through because he wants you to hurt or struggle. He allows you to go through it to show you he’s going to get you through it no matter how bad it may seem. It’s already written. Isaiah 14:24 GNB says, “What I have planned will happen, what I have determined to do will be done.” Nothing can stop the plan God has for your life. In Jeremiah 29:11 it says, “I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.” Rest assured God is going to get you through because he has to keep his impeccable reputation. He has to use you to show others what kind of God he is.

I want to invite you to reflect on a time in your life when you were going through something and you had absolutely no idea how you would get through it. Then I want you to write about how God got you through it even if you couldn’t see He was in the mix at the time. Then take a moment to think about each situation where that has happened or even times when the situation seemed to get worse and worse, but every single time you hung in there and got through it that’s grounds for some reflection (and celebration).
