Creating a Warrior Mindset

DAY 1 OF 5

The Beginning

Have you ever heard the saying, it's not how you start, it's how you finish? Well, I have and I don't entirely agree. How you start is important. Recognizing the foundation you're starting with is extremely crucial to your success and growth. My childhood began with trauma and tragedy, “my beginning.” I lived my earliest years as far back as I can remember in a rundown neighborhood in Virginia where crime was high and hope was low for most families living there at that time. That made everyday life more and more of a blessing, just to make it through the day without being the victim of a stray bullet or being in the “wrong place at the wrong time.” After tragedy struck my life and I witnessed my mother’s death at the young age of 4 years old, my grandmother took me in and raised me. I didn't know this would later make me a stronger individual from within and put me on God's special roster. How, you may be wondering, could experiencing something so awful at such a young age turn out to be a positive thing in my life? It was one of the first odds that was stacked against me. I’ve learned the greater the odds and obstacles, the greater the success. I want to pause for a minute to remind you, this is all a part of my start or my beginning. One thing I stand by to be true is God has a reason for everything he allows. God had a plan for the rest of my life and it would align with my beginning. What I want you to relate to is that we've all had something significant happen in our life that set our foundation for our purpose. Remember, nothing happens by accident; it is all actually part of God’s divine plan.

Yes, You can do great things.
David is one of my favorite Bible stories, in short, it's a story of how God used an unlikely vessel to do great, amazing things. He even put him in position to be a king. Well, let's talk about how David started, his beginning. David was the youngest son of his father Jesse, (1 Samuel 17:12) he tended to the sheep. He was an unlikely pick to fight the Philistines and bring victory to King Saul. Why? Because he was a shepherd boy, the youngest of all his brothers, and his beginning wasn't training to be a strong soldier or leader, but that didn't matter. His foundation was still made strong and all of the things he went through and learned in his life prepared him for his fight with the Philistines’ giant. He didn’t realize how much God had actually prepared him for this battle, in his beginning. (1 Samuel 17:32-37) I want to let you know you are much like David, no matter how you started or how much you may feel undeserving of greatness, you are already made to be great and God chose you. It feels good to know God will meet us right when we are broken, sad, confused, it doesn't matter. So don't be ashamed about where you started. It's going to help you get to where you need to be.

Expand Your Thoughts. Identify the most significant starting point in your life.

It doesn’t have to be your childhood or your early years. It can be whatever point is significant enough that it caused a serious change in your life or made people look at you and your success as unlikely. Write about how it made you stronger or taught you a life lesson that you were able to carry with you. Use this process to get a new outlook on your starting point so you can view it as a blessing!
