What Does The Bible Say About Grief And Sorrow?

Dag 7 av 10

Jesus Christ has borne our griefs. In the Gospels, it becomes clear that the promised Servant of the Lord, about whom Isaiah said such amazing things, is Jesus Christ. Matthew records His intense suffering on our behalf: ‘He said to them: “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death.”’ That same night, Jesus was arrested and accused of blasphemy, because He claimed to be the Son of God. Although He had never committed any sin, He was sentenced to death by crucifixion — on our behalf. Jesus bore our sorrows and griefs to the end, till He finally cried out "It is finished," bowed His head and died. As the apostle Peter summarizes: “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24). This is the core of the Gospel: unbelievable, utterly unjust, and yet this was God’s gracious way to provide forgiveness and healing for sinful and broken humans. There is no other solution: “there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Thank Jesus for his amazing sacrifice on our behalf!
