Next Steps in Following Jesus: Love God
In Luke 15 Jesus narrates a parable of a Shepherd who has lost one of his sheep. He leaves the rest of the flock to look for that one lost sheep. In His great love, Jesus, the Good Shepherd, searches for the lost. He came to die for the lost. Lost people matter to God. Do you realize that although you are lost, God loves you?
We do not have the ability to love God on our own. “We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). But when we accept His love, we are able to love Him in return.
Love is a command in Scripture! Mark 12:30 says “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart…soul…mind and…strength.” This describes an all-encompassing love, the consuming passion of your life. Loving God enables us to see clearly everything else in life. This love enables us to love others and leads to a life of obedience to Christ.
