HOW DO I DO THIS? BE PREPARED Generally it's a good idea to leave interventions to professionals. If somebody is brandishing a gun, call the police. If somebody is going into cardiac arrest, call the paramedics. If someone is in agony with impacted wisdom teeth, get her to an oral surgeon. However, when you want to bring someone back to the faith, don't walk away because you're not a religious professional. When God calls you into his family as his child, he is simultaneously drafting you into his spiritual armed forces as a medic. Here are two things to do to get ready for that high calling: "In your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have" (1 Peter 3:15). In other words, worship Jesus Christ as your Creator, Redeemer, and helper, and take the time to get into your Bible enough so that you can give a coherent account of what you believe and why. I believe that the most compelling testimonies of faith come from people who are not being paid to say those things.
