Introduction to Galatians

Paul wrote this letter to the churches in Galatia around A.D. 49. He helped start them and maintained a strong relationship with them. Because of this, his words to them had strength for he was not shy in speaking boldly to them. Many scholars believe that Paul was the most angry when he wrote this letter because he feared the people were being deceived by false teachers, and he wanted to help them stay on the pathway of truth.

Paul’s desire was to see unity despite the fact that there were Christian Jews and Christian Gentiles. The Judaizers were trying to convince the Gentile believers that they had to obey Jewish law for salvation. He argues that justification comes through faith in Christ, not their religious works.
