Don’t Quarrel

2 Timothy 2: 14, 23
“…Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen…Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels…And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.”

There are few quarrels as painful as a religious quarrel. Brothers and sisters in the family of God fight together about styles of worship music, the role of women in ministry, the style of preaching and a host of other subjects. These are not salvation issues, but they distract us from our mission of sharing and living the gospel in our generation. These quarrels also damage the spiritual health of new believers (and old believers), who get caught up in the arguments. Spiritual maturity is reflected in our humility, kindness and wisdom (among other things), in avoiding quarrels.

Lord Jesus, guard my life from quarreling. I pray for your wisdom as I teach and call others to live on mission with you.
