Weird Ideas: Suffered Under Pontius Pilate

1 diena iš 5

Here’s a strange move. Write a statement of faith about Jesus. Then, choose to name a person in your statement of faith who doesn’t believe in Jesus. That’s what happens in the Apostles’ Creed. The Apostles’ Creed is the first universally held statement of faith by early Christians outside the Bible. It’s meant to be a summary that highlights the key beliefs and central tenets of Christianity. While organized in a Trinitarian fashion, it centers on Jesus. But other than the Father and the Holy Spirit, the only other person named is Pontius Pilate – a person who rejected Jesus and condemned him. Of all the people you could mention, why Pontius Pilate? This week’s reading plan explores the significance of naming Pilate. For now, just read the story from John about Pilate’s interaction with Jesus.
