HERE THEY COME AGAIN
Do parents influence their children's behavior? Have a look at these.
- Jacob meeting Rachel echoes how Eliezer met his mother, Rebekah. Maybe even at the same well and it’s the same family.
- Jacob tricked Esau for blessing. Laban tricked Jacob for his wife and wages.
- Abraham agreed to take Hagar on Sarah’s advice to build their family. Jacob agreed to take Bilhah and Zilpah, Rachel's and Leah’s maids, to build their family.
- Jacob bought his brother's birthright over a bowl of stew. Leah bought a night with her husband with her son's mandrakes.
- Abraham called his wife his sister to protect his life. Isaac did the same.
- God told Abraham to go to Canaan. God told Jacob to do the same.
- Abraham trusted God and it was seen in Isaac’s life and then in Jacob's life.
What we observe is that our children follow what we do, good or bad. We observe that how we treat others is how we are treated. We see that in Jacob’s life. It makes us responsible for our actions. Some actions we see repeated even after a generation.
We need to be careful as to what we pass on to the next generation. We need to ask God to give us ideas of how to communicate our mistakes to them, that they do not repeat it. Most of all, we need to teach them to have a relationship with God.
