Transforming Love

“Love one another.”

Jesus speaks these words clearly and directly. Then He adds: By this love, the world will recognize His disciples.

The command is simple—living it is not.

The setting of this command matters. Jesus is in the upper room with His disciples, just before His arrest. Time is short. He washes their feet. He prays for them. And then He gives this new command.

It is not entirely new, of course. Love has always been central to God’s law: Love God above all and your neighbor as yourself. But here it takes on a deeper meaning. Jesus is about to demonstrate what this love looks like. He will give His life. His command is not abstract. It is defined by His example.

It is a love that transforms us. When you begin to care for others in this way, something changes inside you. You become more and more like Jesus. You change—and the world changes around you. The Creator creates something new through you.

This love is costly. It requires humility, forgiveness, and persistence. It often goes against instinct.

But the command remains the same: “Love one another as I have loved you.”

Prayer

Lord, thank You for showing me what true love looks like. I need Your help to live this out. Teach me to love others as You have loved me. Shape my heart, my words, and my actions so that they reflect You. Help me love faithfully today. Amen.
