Cultivating the Giving Grace I

Giving is a function of grace. And just like every kind of grace, we can grow in its expression. This is Peter’s admonition to the church, to grow in grace (2 Peter 3:18). Paul also admonished Timothy to be strong in grace (2 Timothy 2:1). Believers are expected to grow and wax strong in the expression of God’s grace at work in them. This is applicable to the giving grace. You can grow stronger in the giving grace.

The foundational truth to know about the giving grace is that it has been given to all believers. Roman 5:5 tells us that God’s love has been shed abroad in our hearts. Now, the foremost characteristic of God’s love is giving. God’s love is always disposed to give. So God’s love shed abroad in us is our giving grace. The pulse of God’s love influences our hearts to give.

A believer may choose not to walk in love. It doesn’t change the fact that he’s got God’s kind of love in him. Likewise, the believer who finds it difficult to give simply needs to begin by acknowledging God’s giving grace on the inside of him.

If you struggle with giving, and wonder how some folks find it relatively easy to give. Well, you can cultivate the same grace already resident in you by first acknowledging the love of God shed abroad in your heart and learn to yield to its pulse.

Sound Code:

Father, thank You for planting Your giving grace within me. Your love flows through me freely. I walk in generosity, I give joyfully, and I abound in every good work. Amen.
