Self-Control

Self-control is quiet freedom,
desire placed gently
in the hands of God.

It does not chase every craving.
It chooses the slow integrity
of discipline,
so love can lead the way.

Self-control turns from the easy path,
from the restless pull
of self-serving wants,
and walks instead toward
what gives life.

It is the Spirit’s steady training,
a practiced trust
that keeps the heart free
to love God and neighbor.
