Day 15

ALL SCRIPTURE IS GOD-BREATHED

(2 Tim 3:16,17)

All scripture is inspired by the Holy Spirit. It came from heaven. The Greek word “theopneustos” literally means God-breathed. Scripture is the breath of God. His breath is embedded in His word. It contains the heart and the character of God. “God has transmitted his very substance into every Scripture, for it is God-breathed.” (2 Tim 3:16a TPT)

Jesus Himself said, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63 NKJV) The words Jesus spoke come from the Holy Spirit and carry the life and power of the Holy Spirit! His words empower us to live a Godly life. The letter of the law couldn’t do it. It can happen only by the power of His Holy Spirit. “Not that we are adequate in ourselves… but our adequacy is from God… not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Cor 4:5,6) That is why the word of God is referred to as the “sword of the Spirit.” “And take… the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Eph 6:17 NKJV). Meditating on His word will bring it to life and revive you.

The whole Bible…is useful to *teach us what is true and to *make us realize what is wrong in our lives; *it straightens us out and *helps us do what is right.” (2 Tim 3:16 TLB) The Word of God will refine us, as it did in Joseph’s life. It will teach us what is true. It will make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It will straighten us out and correct us. It will help us do what is right – instructing us in righteousness. The power of the word will transform us. DL Moody said, “The Bible was not given to increase our knowledge but to change our lives.”

The word changes us for a purpose. “Then you will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives you.” (2 Tim 3:17 TPT) The purpose is to fully mature and perfectly prepare us as God’s servants. Then we will be able to do and fulfill any assignment God gives us.

A few weeks ago, I stopped at the shop. I asked my daughter to do some shopping for me as I needed to make a call. I was on my way to a barbeque (braai) with a few other men. I asked her to buy me a steak, a cold drink, and snacks. Just before she stepped out of the car, she looked me in the eye and asked, “Dad, please give me the bank card.” The bank card would empower her to do what I requested from her. Without the bank card, she could not do it.

God is a righteous God. He won’t ask us to do anything without empowering us and enabling us to perform it. When God speaks to us, He has already prepared us, matured us, refined us, and enabled us to fulfill our assignment. We should step out in obedience. Be brave and courageous to do it. God is with us!

Father, thank You that You are a righteous God. Thank You that Your word and Your Spirit enable me! Thank you that You are with me!

Word IMPACT!

In the beginning, His word impact resulted in light. The whole creation came about by His word. A widow and her son were saved from death when she put her faith in the word Elijah spoke. She discovered that the little she had was always enough when she put God first. It changed her life completely. When we allow His word to do a deep work within us, we will be fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives us. May “Word Impact!” shape you to think and act like Jesus as you follow Him every day!
