Day 10

HIS WORD DOESN'T RETURN VOID

“So will My word be which goes out of My mouth;

It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire,

And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it.” (Is 55:11 NASB)

There is such power in God’s word. God said that the nature of the word that goes out of His mouth has power. Power to accomplish. Power to make things happen. The word that goes out of His mouth is not weak or passive. It doesn’t return empty-handed. It doesn’t lack life and power and strength to accomplish God’s desire.

When God said, “Let there be light” (Gen 1:3), His word possessed all the qualities that darkness had, to give light. In the words of Eugene Peterson, “The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out.” (John 1:5 MSG)

God said to the prophet Jeremiah, “You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.” (Jer 1:12) Not only does God release the word from His mouth, but He also takes ownership of that word, that it will certainly carry out all His plans and make sure it comes true. God made every dream he’d given to Joseph reach fulfillment. Even the bad things that had happened were part of God’s plan. “But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” (Gen 50:20) His word, God says, “will succeed in the purpose for which I sent it.” (Is 55:11)

His word has latent power, driving it to fulfillment. It is like a seed. It looks small and inactive, but inside it carries everything needed to grow a tree. Do you still remember, as a child, putting a seed in moist cotton wool and seeing it germinate after a few days? The embryo inside the seed begins to grow into a new plant once the moisture, oxygen, and ideal temperature activate it.

The nature of the word, which goes out of His mouth, contains within itself the ability to accomplish what He intends. It doesn’t depend on human strength, but carries its own divine energy until the promise is complete.

The angel said to Mary, “No word from God will ever fail.” (Luke 1:37 NIV) She put her faith into that word and responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” (Luke 1:38 NLT)

Even when we are not aware of it, God’s word is active within us to accomplish His plan and purpose. His word is working backstage so that Christ can be formed on the inside. “God means what He says. What He says goes. His powerful Word is as sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one can resist God’s Word. We can’t get away from it - no matter what.” (Heb 4:12,13 MSG)

Father, thank You that Your word is pre-programmed to do everything in my life that is needed to make me Christ-like. I worship and adore you!
