The Joy of the Lord Is Our Strength

“Do not be grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold.” — Nehemiah 8:10 AMPC

There are times when life’s challenges aren’t what weigh us down most—it’s the awareness of our own mistakes. We fall short, and shame whispers that God must be finished with us. The enemy would love for us to believe that lie. But Scripture reminds us of something greater: the joy of the Lord is our strength.

In Nehemiah’s day, the people were grieving over their sins. But God didn’t want them stuck in sorrow. He wanted them to rejoice in His forgiveness. The same is true for us. When we repent and turn back to Him, we don’t need to live in shame. Instead, His joy becomes the wellspring of our strength.

That joy isn’t shallow happiness based on circumstances. It’s the deep assurance that we are loved, forgiven, and secure in Christ. It is knowing that nothing can separate us from His presence.

Strength fueled by joy means we can rise after we stumble. We can press forward even when life is hard, because our strength isn’t based on what we’ve done but on who God is. His joy lifts us, sustains us, and empowers us to keep going.

So when guilt tries to weigh you down, remember this truth: the joy of the Lord is not only your song—it is your strength.
