Glory

Isaiah prophesied during a time of significant upheaval and transition for the Israelites. They were in exile, lost, wandering, and feeling hopeless toward the future because of their mistakes and the challenges they faced. But God reassured them of his ongoing presence and faithfulness. He promised to bring them forward and restore them. God urged the Israelites to let go of their past experiences of hardship and to focus on the new things he was doing.

As someone who has been betrayed and divorced, I have felt overwhelmed by the pain of my past. The flood of emotions—sadness, anger, and a profound sense of loss. The past loomed large, casting long shadows over my present. I found myself dwelling on what went wrong and how things could have been different. The pain felt like a wilderness with no clear path forward. I struggled to see how anything good could come from my situation, but God’s promise was still as clear as it was back in the time of Isaiah. He was at work, even if I couldn’t perceive it.

I put my faith and trust back in God. I prayed to him continually. I followed him through the darkness. And God made a way through my wilderness. Through friends and family, he provided unexpected support. I started finding small moments of joy and hope. In the middle of my wasteland, streams began bubbling up with a new sense of purpose and a growing peace in my heart. A renewed vision for the future emerged. I’ve come to see that God’s promise was more than just comforting words. It was a call to trust him and to always look forward. As I let go of the past and opened my heart to the new things he was doing, I began to experience his renewal in ways I couldn’t imagine were possible. He healed me and set me on a new path!

You might be at your lowest, feeling isolated after a relational loss or financial setback. You might be grappling with deep loneliness in the quiet of your home. Perhaps you're overwhelmed with worry, scrolling through endless job listings, or trying to find your purpose. No matter where you find yourself or what you're facing, Jesus is right there with you. Can you see it? Do you not perceive it? He’s not distant. He’s right there, entering your desert and redeeming it for your God given destiny! Hold onto the promise of Isaiah 43:18-19. He is making a way in the wilderness and bringing streams in your wasteland!

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for your unchanging faithfulness and your promise to do new things in our lives. Lord, I recognize that sometimes I’ve become so focused on my past hurts, regrets, and failures that I’ve missed the new beginnings you are bringing. Open my eyes to see the new work you are doing in my midst. Help me to embrace the changes you are orchestrating and to walk confidently in the newness of life you offer. Thank you for being a God who makes a way where there seems to be no way. I put my trust in you. For I know that even in the wilderness, there’s still water; I see water! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
