See Jesus Clearly

How big is your picture of Jesus today?

Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a mountain to pray. “As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning” (Luke 9:29, NIV). Moses and Elijah appeared and talked with Him about the cross-shaped rescue He was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. A cloud covered them and a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him” (Luke 9:35, NIV).

The Gospels help us see what the disciples saw. Matthew says that Jesus’ face “shone like the sun and His clothes were as white as light” (Matthew 17:2, NIV). This was not a borrowed glow. Hebrews explains that “the Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being” (Hebrews 1:3, NIV). John adds a personal memory when he writes that the disciples “have seen his glory” full of grace and truth (John 1:14, NIV).

The disciples were afraid. Jesus came and touched them and said, “Get up. Don’t be afraid” (Matthew 17:7, NIV). That is a beautiful picture of His heart. He reveals His glory so we will trust Him more, not run away. The Father’s instruction still guides us. Listen to Jesus. Let His words shape your decisions and your days. Peter never forgot this moment. Later he wrote that they were eyewitnesses of His majesty and heard the voice from heaven, and that we now have the prophetic word confirmed as a light shining in a dark place (2 Peter 1:16 to 19, NIV).

Here is the simple takeaway: Worship Jesus for who He really is. Listen to Him. Then follow Him down the mountain into everyday life with fresh courage. A clear view of Christ always brings steady peace and new strength for what is ahead.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, open my eyes to Your beauty and authority. Help me listen to You above every other voice. Give me courage to follow You in the ordinary and the difficult. Amen.
