“I Will Be With You”
What if the most important thing you carry into your day is God’s presence?
When God told Moses to go to Pharaoh, Moses felt small. He asked, “Who am I that I should go” (Exodus 3:11, NIV). God answered with Himself, “I will be with you” (Exodus 3:12, NIV). That promise is the heart of courage. God did not give Moses a pep talk about his skills. He gave Moses His presence.
Moses raised more questions, and God kept giving answers. God revealed His name. He promised help. He showed Moses signs. He even provided a partner for the journey. A simple way to think about Exodus 3 and 4 is this: When God calls, God equips. Paul learned the same truth. He wrote, “Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God” (2 Corinthians 3:5, NIV). God’s strength fills our gaps.
This promise carries into your life as a follower of Jesus. Joshua heard it when God said to be strong and courageous because the Lord would be with him wherever he went (Joshua 1:9, NIV). The disciples heard it when Jesus said He would be with them always, to the very end of the age (Matthew 28:20, NIV). You can paraphrase those promises this way: God goes with His people into every next step.
Think about the sign God gave Moses. The sign of victory would be worship. “When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain” (Exodus 3:12, NIV). Freedom leads to meeting with God. That is still true. God frees us so we can enjoy His presence and help others do the same.
Where do you feel underqualified today? Bring it to God. Ask for His presence. Then take one simple step of obedience. As you do, remember His promise to Moses: “I will be with you.”
Prayer: Father, thank You for going with me. Fill my ordinary day with Your presence. Give me courage where I feel small, and let my life lead others into worship. Amen.
