Growing Multigenerational Faithಮಾದರಿ

"God also said to Moses, 'Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations." -Exodus 3:15, ESV
The Hebrew people were an oral culture. Stories were passed down from generation to generation. The Hebrew people were to see themselves not as single individuals alone in the world, but as individuals who each play a part in the story of God from generation to generation.
Moses had been disconnected from his community for decades. He was raised in Pharaoh’s house, and then, after killing an Egyptian, he escaped to Midian, where he lived for 40 years.
For 400 years, the Hebrews had been enslaved in Egypt, and God chose to use Moses to rescue them. Moses was hesitant, asking God: “Why me? They won’t listen to me! What if they ask who sent me?”
God answers Moses in Exodus 3:15 with the words that not only all the Hebrews needed to hear, but with words that Moses himself needed to hear.
They needed to be reminded of history. They needed to be reminded of the stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
“Moses…I’ve been working out my plan of redemption throughout history, and I’ve got a part for you to play to carry it forward to more generations; that’s who I am!”
God is present today, to you and to me, in the same way he was present to them. He is the same God. It is the same story of redemption. It is just a different generation.
God’s story of redemption continues. What’s your part?

Questions to Consider
- Where has God placed you to be salt and light in the world, showing and sharing Jesus with others?
- What is your history with God that has shaped who you are today?
Actions to Take
- Start praying for two people in your sphere of influence, asking the Holy Spirit to open opportunities to share hope with them.
- Take a risk of faith by being a person of faith in a place or way that you might not normally do.
Prayer to Make
Heavenly Father, thank you that history can remind us of who you are and what you have done in the world. Help me see that in my own life and share it with someone today. Amen.
