Uncuffed: Bulletproofing the Police Marriage

DAY 2 OF 40

# Why Marriage? > The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” > Genesis 2:18 (NIV) Marriage is an intentional arrangement created by God that allows us to enjoy our relationship with each other. The relationship we share with our spouse is a direct reflection of the relationship God wants to enjoy with us. He adores us. Believe it or not, we did not invent the institution of marriage. We may have messed it up a bit by leaving our vows on the church floor, but marriage remains sacred in God’s eyes. Marriage is a gift to, not a got to! The connection between husband and wife was designed to sustain us throughout the days of our lives. God actually looked at Adam kicking it all alone and said that it wasn’t good for him to be alone, so He created Eve, his wife (Genesis 2:18). Although there are tough times, the 2-as-1 marriage model creates an atmosphere where we’ve always got our best friend and eternal partner by our side and watching our back. Marriage is also vital for your development in life. Alone, we turn inward and pursue selfish desires in an endless trial for self-satisfaction and fulfillment. It remains elusive. Together, we learn to serve others above ourselves. And, if children are included in the family mix, we really learn what it is to become a sacrificial servant. Investing in others makes us better in everything else we do. God’s gift of marriage is meant to be treasured and enjoyed. ### CALL TO ACTION: Make the time to talk about your lives as a married couple. Focus on the positives that you’ve each experienced since being married. Are there hard times? Sure, but now is the time to focus on the gift of marriage as God gave it to you. What do you love about being married?
