Swords Up: How to Use the Weapon of God’s Word

Principle #5: I meditate on the Word of God. Biblical meditation is allowing the Word of God to illuminate the truth in a fresh way. It’s making the decision to intentionally ponder, personalize, and practice it throughout your day. We can meditate when we hear, read, study, and memorize scripture. Biblical meditation is how we allow the Word to transform our lives. When I first began to practice biblical meditation, I read the book Reclaiming the Lost Art of Biblical Meditation by Robert J. Morgan . I also use the Abide Bible & Sleep Meditation app. It’s a great way for me to recenter my focus on God and His truth when I’m feeling overwhelmed. But, these are both additional resources. All we need is the Scriptures in order to grow stronger in biblical meditation. Action Steps: Here’s a Short Guided Meditation on Psalm 1:1-3. * Read and ponder Psalm 1:1-3. * Now, let’s personalize it. A tree planted by streams of water has access to nourishment all the time. What is your source? What streams have you planted yourself next to? What kind of fruit would you say your life is yielding right now? What does this verse say about a person who’s a tree planted in the Word of God? * Throughout the day, practice planting yourself by streams that will bear fruit like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
