Daily Reflection: The story of the Roman Centurion in Luke 7 contains numerous themes that encourage the family of God; listening, asking, believing, etc. Of all of these themes, however, perhaps the most influential is the very aspect of the story that led to the healing of the Centurion’s servant, his faith. Interestingly, Jesus’ response to this event is to declare that he has not seen this type of faith – not even in Israel. In other words, Jesus is alluding to the expansion of his family to include both Jew and Gentile. Daily Demonstration: One of the most incredible ways to step out in faith as a family is through participating in a season of prayer and fasting. We are only four days away from beginning a 21 day fast. It’s one thing to sit back and watch others exercise their faith; it’s another thing to step out in faith on your own and participate. As we learned from the Centurion, these steps of faith become defining characteristics of the family of God. Begin to look toward the fast today and ask God how you will participate. What will you fast from? What will your prayer rhythm be? What will you be praying for?
