Time for Breakfast
In the Bible, breakfast is not always explicitly mentioned, but there are several examples that show the importance of beginning the day with nourishment and fellowship. In John 21:12-13 (NIV), after His resurrection, Jesus invites His disciples to eat breakfast with Him: “Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast.’ ... Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.” This simple meal on the shore highlights care, provision, and relationship—both physical and spiritual. Similarly, in 1 Kings 19:5-8 (NIV), the prophet Elijah is exhausted and overwhelmed until an angel brings him food: “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” After eating, Elijah is strengthened to continue his mission. These moments emphasize how God uses food to restore, prepare, and connect with His people.
Here in the present day, breakfast still serves a similar role—it provides physical energy (we recommend beginning your day with a protein like an egg, not a sugary-filled pastry) and often creates space for connection. Sharing breakfast with family or pausing in the morning to reflect and nourish the body can mirror the biblical rhythm of renewal and relationship. Just as Jesus used breakfast as a time to connect with His followers and Elijah needed food to carry out his calling, we too benefit from starting the day with intention and sustenance. Eating breakfast can be a small but meaningful act of care, stewardship, and preparation for the tasks ahead.
